This Golf Outing is a fundraiser for Huron Valley Officials Association. Huron Valley Officials Association is an Ann Arbor based, Michigan High School Approved, organization focused on the recruitment, ongoing education and retention of high school sports officials. We “cover” the sports of football, basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball (though our members also work many other sports). Though the HVOA is focused on high school sports, many of our members have moved on to college sports (at the highest level) and even to the pro ranks (one of our former members was an Umpire in the NFL and another was a WNBA referee). The money raised at this fundraiser goes to pay for Training expenses (meeting rooms, materials, Trainers travel expenses when attending MHSAA mandated training of their own, etc.), our web site, technology fees associated with members being assigned games, and Board meeting expenses, among other things. While our members (we have approximately 125 members) pay dues, this Outing helps keep our Association’s dues among the lowest in the state.
As part of the fund raiser we solicit door prizes to be given to our golfers. Our goal every year is to have a door prize for every golfer, which is a big undertaking since we always have around 100 golfers. We also sell hole sponsorships to local businesses. The cost is $75.00/hole (or $100.00 for two holes). We keep the golfer’s entry fee as low as possible, so hole sponsorships are an important fraction of the money we raise with the outing.
